The question of the month:

Q: I hope my name doesn't get used in this but I have to take the chance. A girlfriend of mine suggested I ask you since you answer honestly. I am dating an African-American guy who likes to PNP (party and play by using crystal meth occasionally) and he swears he's never done any wild sex or anything while on it before we met. I heard there is a new strain of HIV that is super resistant to drugs. Is this true? And what are the chances that he might have it. He won't get tested.

Vixen's Answer

A: First, yes, there have been reports of a new, more virulent strain of HIV, known as 3-DCR HIV, that's resistant to three of the four commonly used drugs, and progresses to full-blown AIDS in 2-10 months instead of 10 years. This is not something you want to fool around with. Why take a chance with your life, for a few minutes or hours of pleasure?

Second, your friend's assurance that he's never done anything wild while on meth is worth about as much as a Confederate dollar. Combining drugs and sex is a risky business, which can lead to all sorts of unwanted consequences, like rape, STDs, and HIV/AIDS. According to Bloomberg.com in an article on Feb. 11, 2005:

“Use of crystal methamphetamine shows that the drug continues to play a significant role in facilitating the transmission of HIV. The drug reduces peoples' inhibitions and their likelihood of using condoms or other forms of safe sex.”

Tell your friend in no uncertain terms that if he won't get tested, you two won't be having sex. He may be afraid to be tested, for fear the results may come out positive. But, sticking your head in the sand is no way to protect yourself, or others. And please, if you've already had unprotected sex with this man, get yourself tested. The Vixen cares about you.
